I recently created a new section of my website, which provides educational resources for anyone who wants to read ancient Middle Eastern and North African languages using braille. You can find the home page by clicking the “Braille” button on the top-level site menu or by navigating to https://www.blindscholar.com/braille/
Currently, the site contains information on Hebrew, Greek, and Coptic in their native scripts and on reading Sumerian, Akkadian, and a great many other languages in transliteration.
I hope the site can be useful to people in a variety of situations, including:
- Blind and visually impaired students who want to learn the languages of the ancient world
- Established scholars who are losing their sight
- Teachers who are unsure if or how they can include blind and visually impaired students in their language classrooms (spoiler: the answer is yes!)
Please feel free to poke around the site and get in touch with any questions, feedback, or ideas. I hope to expand the site over time to include more languages, scripts, and other tactile instructional materials.
